Sentiments for Sympathy Cards
Expressing Sympathy ...
We may often be at a loss for the right words, but never more so than when expressing sympathy. If you are like me, you want to write something meaningful in a card or on a note with flowers, but sometimes draw a blank. For those times, you can draw from the sentiments below.
With God's Grace ...
Praying for friends to comfort you,
faith to uphold you,
and loving memories
to help you smile again.
Words cannot heal the pain of losing someone so dear.
May God give you the strength to overcome the pain.
"Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you."
1 Peter 5:7
"He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning
or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away."
Revelation 21:4
Sympathy Quotes ...
"A human life is a story told by God." ~Hans Christian Andersen
"When you are sorrowful look again in your heart,
and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for
that which has been your delight." ~Kahlil Gibran
"Unable are the loved to die.
For love is immortality." ~Emily Dickinson
"He spake well who said that graves are the footprints of angels."
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
"In the night of death, hope sees a star,
and listening love can hear the rustle of a wing." ~Robert Ingersoll
"To live in hearts we leave behind
Is not to die." ~Thomas Campbell
Verses to Use in Handmade Cards ...
Death leaves a heartache no one can heal,
love leaves a memory no one can steal.
If tears could build a stairway,
And memories a lane,
I'd walk right up to Heaven
And bring you home again.
Although it's difficult today
to see beyond the sorrow,
May looking back in memory
help comfort you tomorrow.
Sympathy Card Etiquette ...
Send a note even if you are unsure of what to say; it's always better to say something than nothing.
If you knew the individual who died, but not their family, the card should be sent to their nearest relative.
It's probably wise to Include your last name when signing the card even if you know someone well.
Be sure to include your return address on the outside of the envelope to make it easier for the recipient to send a thank you.
When You Need More than a Card ...
Simple Sentiments ...
When just a few words are needed (such as a note with flowers)
Sent with love and remembrance,
Peace, Prayers and Blessings,
With caring thoughts,
With heartfelt condolences,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you,
Remember that we love and care about you.
